In 1968 English Electric built 68 Class 20 equivalents for CP Rail in Portugal. The first 10 were built in Vulcan Foundry and the remainder were built under license in Portugal. A few still remain today and can be found primarily working the Douro Valley line between Porto and Pocinho. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the 8CSVT Class 20 engine uprated to 1325 hp.

Strong easterly winds create troubled seas in this part of Devon. A lone jogger gets a soaking from Mother Nature. Lesson Learned.

The two diesels ran ahead and waited in Theale loop.
Welcome to Devon.

Steam Dreams outbound excursion to Devon and Cornwall hits the sea wall in dismal conditions with only yours truly there to greet them. The tour originated from Victoria as 1Z40 to ESD then 1Z43 1720 ESD to PLY 45596 Bahamas was leading B1 61306 Mayflower. I think 33207 and 37706 are working the train forward to PZ where the train will remain for a few days. # Devon Steam

In case you`re wondering why the 20 at 1.57 has its nose roof ripped open i can now tell you. A few weeks before your visit a group of us had visited MC Metals to purchase spares for a class 20 we owned at the time. A 20 was found there with compressors that were in excellent condition. To access them the scrappy suggested taking off the nose roof which he did with a JCB with a pincer fitting allowing the compressors to be craned out. So now you know. 😄
Fascinating to see the inside of the tubes. Apart from that one pigeon i was surprised how clean it was,did it smell?
Looked like a bouncy old ride!
I was a 'spotter' in the 70's and 80's before 'life' got in the way. My dear old dad (welling up thinking of him) used to take me to Watford Junction on a Wednesday evening, Kings Cross/St. Pancras on a Friday evening and either Old Oak Common or Paddington on a late Sunday afternoon, with the odd train ride out to Reading thrown in if I was lucky. The one place he never took me was Stratford. That was a one boy/young man daytime trip. Saturdays when I was still at school and weekday afternoons when my shift finished as a young sparky. Looking at this lovely video brought the memories flooding back. The lines and lines of Loco's ticking over. The smell of Diesel. I remember getting so excited as I took the long walk through that tunnel, occasionally nodding at a driver finished for the day. As has been said. No Hi Vis, nothing. But I wasn't confident enough to be 'brazen'. I ducked and dived through the lines of locos, the running sheds and even the 'heavy' workshop, with locos often stripped to the core. I would never of dreamed almost 30 years later I'd be driving 377/456/455's out of Vic and Bridge. Okay, nothing like driving one of those old work horses, but hey, it was still a thrill. Retired now. Thank you for jogging such wonderful memories.
Yare very welcome, i am so pleased you enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing your story.
Wasn't that wrong line working too?
I remember these very well. A big resurgence of the 31s in the late 80s to mid 90s through Leyland with the Blackpool trains and a few of course on the North Wales run. Great video as ever 👍
0:32: And this luggage wagon with lumbers?
Btw this is a hungarian diesel loco:D Awesome video!
Great to see this. I was on the platform there as a 12 year old.
Used to love the sound these made!
Excellent video SR, I was somewhere on the platform for this.
A massive writing off of assets there
My old man used to be a driver out of this depot for years before retiring to Spain
I was a secondman here 1978 to 1983
This was my old depot I was a fireman at eastfield traction depot springburn 1974 onwards my uncle was a mainline driver I spent many shifts with him on the west highland line queen st to Oban was my best shift day shift and the ghost train at night mailtrain with a class 37 or 27
Eastfield always had loads of Scottish Loco's as well as the Usual class 20,24,25. 26 &27's, I went there every year for a visit from 1976-1978 always asked permission to go around & always allowed, that was the good old days, always remember seeing a few smashed up locos like 20, 24 & 25 with various dings and heavy dents, Haymarket was also good with a few Class 55 always on shed along with the usual 26/27's my favourite depot back in the late 70's was Motherwell, A few pages of locos could be had & being from the South, good ones too.
I was a fireman out of eastfield traction depot Glasgow 1974 onwards my uncle was a mainline driver at eastfield
Great video. Hi from NZ
Grimy, misty atmospherics - you can almost taste the diesel smoke! 🚂👍
Hi, what is the best way to get to that spot at 8:50 ?
They quietened down the turbo somewhat didn't they, still recognizable but less whistle
Bloody hell! Look like the big dipper at 2:20!
Always been impressed by the sheer power they can put down, just like the Deltics could do. Quite awesome to hear them come on song and screaming with turbos boosting that 16 cylinder engine! Had a pair of 56s on a rail tour many years ago, 6,500 horse power opening up was amazing to hear and feel the acceleration.
nice capture
Thanks very much.
thnaks for this.
50046 my last BR 50
Great 👍 Memories
Me local hotspot nice video
Oscar winning music and film, I could do this for eternity!
Ahhh, the sounds of my early childhood! Love the rattle of a pair of choppers! 😊
168 sounds more like a Class 20 than the other silenced one; amazingly quiet!
Back in the day ❤️ Memorable and iconic footage of the Hoovers ❤️❤️❤️
Memories are made of this. ( If you know what I mean.) If you don't, you have no idea what you missed.
Really interesting and quality collection Eddie.
Lovely stuff!
I see a lack of investment in the railways isn't an issue, unlike here in the UK 🤣 Excellent video.
This is insane, they are all so gorgeous too !
Always pan on a name or a number
Great video thank you very much 👍
Brilliant
And we should drive electric cars only in Europe 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

When I hear this Roar of the turbos in this it's like OH YEEEEEAAAH, Beautiful ❤️Heavy Metal Thunder ⚡⚡⚡
Was on 37035 & 594 to Taunton!
Fantastic
top stuff
By the sounds of it, class 20189 is the last surviving bit of MC metals?
What a sad story brought tears to my eyes watching all those wonderful locos going to waste just to end up with Class 66's The only people who got rich from the railway was the scrapman
🚂🚂👍
Oooh we changed our mind (direction of departure)! Satisfying CLAG event 😆
